This fantastic vintage metal relief art depicts a Mayan ball court sacrificial procession found carved inside the large ball court at the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza.  This small scale depiction is professionally mounted on wood.  The date of creation is unknown, possibly 1970's or earlier, generally classified as folk art.  The wood mounting is worn with age.

The back of the frame has an old white label with the following description in Spanish: "Procesion de sacrificio.  Relieve de un banco lateral en el interior del gran juego de pelota, Chichen Itza, Yuc."  This roughly translates to "Sacrifice procession, relief of a side bench inside the great ball game, Chichen Itza, Yucatan."

Pictures of the actual centerpiece and the left side warrior of the stone relief at Chichen Itza upon which this work was based appear in the last images for reference.  The artist achieved a remarkable likeness.

Wood Backing Dimensions:  Length a little over 9 and 1/2 inches, Width approximately 4 and 1/2 inches, Height 3/4 inch
