This fantastic vintage hand carved wooden art panel depicts the Incan sun god Inti. Inti was one of the most important gods to the ancient Incas. He was a source of warmth, light, and protector of the people.
As a solar deity, he was associated with agriculture and good harvests. The Incan Emperors were said to be descended from this god of the sun.
This carving would make an excellent wall display. It was skillfully carved from a single solid piece of wood by indigenous people in Ecuador in the 1980's, generally classified as folk art. It has a hook on the top back for wall hanging and an import/export sticker stamped "MADE IN ECUADOR".
Ecuador was part of the Incan empire during the late 15th century and early 16th century prior to the Spanish colonial era.
