This spectacular hand carved amazonian jaguar mask was purchased in the Brazilian Amazon in the late 1960's and brought back to the United States.
The natural wood has some lightly dyed jaguar spots and red around the mouth, which was said to be done using natural dyes from the rain forest. It was reportedly hand made by an indigenous tribe in the Amazon river basin. An actual Amazonian jaguar is pictured in the last image for reference.
This mask is in excellent vintage condition. It is currently mounted on bark cloth and framed for display. It is stitched to the bark cloth, which was said to act as a hood for wearing the mask on one's forehead, but no eye holes were ever cut. The mask was not worn to my knowledge. It makes a fantastic display piece.
